Power Distribution is the distribution of power through the home. The power in the house begins at the transformer from the street . The transformer reduces the voltage down to 120 volts on each of the two (phases) wires attached to the house. The third wire attached to the house is called a neutral, which is also connected to the transformer. These wires are connected to the service which starts at the equipment outside the home. The meter can either be inline with or remotely attached to the power entering the home so the power company can see the wattage the home is drawing. After the meter, these wires are connected to a main circuit breaker regulating the power passing from the transformer to the house. This breaker(s) is called the first point of disconnect and this is where all the ground wires and neutrals from both the street and house are connected together. This main breaker(s) feeds the main panel(s) in the home with power. The panel contains slots for smaller breakers which feed all the circuits. These circuits branch out throughout the home feeding the power to all the lights, outlets and appliances in the house.
